Why make a claim against your Home Insurance Policy?

I have come across so many people who say “I don’t want to claim against my home policy”. For small incidents at home which won’t cost much to repair, this makes sense.

However, the whole purpose of a home insurance policy is to provide cover for when an incident occurs. This is why you pay a premium.

Remember – you have a contract

This is also something that Insurance companies forget! They seem to forget that you have a contract and it is your right to make a claim when something goes wrong. Instead of assisting you in making the claim, they make it very difficult and treat you as if you are doing something wrong. The first thing they will do is ask you every question on your proposal form to make sure you didn’t make a mistake. They discover that you did make a mistake they will use this to back out of making any claim.

It’s very important to understand the claim process and how to make a claim correctly. For this reason I would recommend any home or business owner engage a Loss Assessor to represent their interests when it comes to making a claim.
